Projector & Screen Installation
Professional projector and screen installation for home theaters, basements, and commercial boardrooms across the Greater Toronto Area. Precise mounting, calibration, and full wire concealment.
More Than Just Mounting a Projector
A proper projector installation requires careful planning to get the job done right the first time. That means an on-site assessment to measure the room, confirm ceiling structure, verify sight lines, and calculate the exact throw distance for your projector model and screen size.
Custom AVI has been installing projectors and screens across the Greater Toronto Area since 2010 — for basement home theaters, dedicated cinema rooms, living rooms, and commercial boardrooms. We handle everything from ceiling mount to HDMI routing to final image calibration.
- ✓ Ceiling, wall, or shelf mount — any configuration
- ✓ Throw distance calculated for your exact screen size
- ✓ Post-mount calibration: focus, keystone & lens shift
- ✓ HDMI, speaker, and power cable routing included
- ✓ Works with your existing AV receiver or components
Three Services, One Visit
Projector Installation
Ceiling mount, wall mount, or shelf placement. We calculate throw distance, route all cables, and calibrate the image for perfect alignment on your screen — every time.
Screen Installation
Fixed, motorized, or manual pull-down screens installed and properly aligned to your projector. We handle all types and sizes — up to and beyond 150 inches.
Wire Concealment
In-wall and in-ceiling routing for a clean, professional finish. Where in-wall isn’t possible, we install paintable wire raceways that blend with your ceiling and walls.
Four Types of Projector Screens
Not all screens are created equal. The type you choose affects image quality, convenience, and installation requirements. We install all types and can advise on the best option for your space.
Tensioned Fixed Screen
Tensioned on all four sides — perfectly flat, no waves, no curling. The gold standard for dedicated home theaters. Look for a black velvet border to absorb spill light.
Tensioned Motorized Screen
Same four-sided tensioning as a fixed screen, but it rolls up when not in use. Operates via remote or triggered by your projector’s power signal — ideal for living rooms.
Motorized Screen
Tensioned top and bottom only. Convenient remote or trigger operation, though side-edge waves are possible on wider screens. Good for home use where perfect flatness isn’t critical.
Manual Pull-Down Screen
Top-and-bottom tensioned, manually operated. The most budget-friendly option — ideal for occasional use or rooms where motorization isn’t necessary.
If you’re buying a new screen, we strongly recommend a tensioned screen — fixed or motorized — with a gain between 1.0 and 1.3. Four-sided tensioning eliminates the waves and curling that degrade projected image quality.
If budget is tight, a painted wall with black velvet or velour wrapped edges is a surprisingly effective alternative — and we can advise on projection screen paints compatible with your projector.
Throw Distance & Image Calibration
Every projector model has a specific throw distance — the exact distance the unit must sit from the screen to produce a given image size. Getting this wrong means a clipped image or a projector that doesn’t fit your room.
We calculate throw distance based on your screen size and projector model. If centred placement isn’t possible, we use keystone correction and lens shift to achieve perfect alignment regardless.
- ✓ Ultra Short Throw — projects from centimetres away
- ✓ Short Throw — ideal when ceiling depth is limited
- ✓ Standard Throw — most common for dedicated rooms
- ✓ Post-install: focus, keystone & lens shift calibration
- ✓ Image aligned perfectly to your screen boundaries
Office & Boardroom Projectors
Commercial projector installations in office buildings and boardrooms present unique structural challenges — most commonly drop (tiled) ceilings, which require building support above the ceiling grid or using specialized projector mounts designed for suspended tile systems.
Custom AVI has extensive experience with commercial environments across the GTA. We safely build the necessary support structure and supply all hardware for a secure, professional installation.
- ✓ Drop ceiling support construction and hardware
- ✓ Tile ceiling mounts and drop pole systems
- ✓ HDMI, HDBaseT, and wireless presentation integration
- ✓ Coordination with IT and facilities teams
- ✓ Serving offices across Toronto, Mississauga, Markham & the GTA
Wire Concealment Options
Every projector installation includes cable management. Power and HDMI cables run from the projector to your AV components — hidden inside the structure or along the surface in paintable raceway.
Low-voltage cables — HDMI, speaker wire, control wiring — can be fished through the ceiling and wall, completely hidden from view. Delivers the cleanest possible finish.
Power cords cannot run inside walls or ceilings by code, so this option requires a power outlet at the projector location. We can advise on in-wall power kits or coordinate with an electrician.
Note: Requires a power outlet at the projector mounting location. Best planned during a renovation, but retrofittable in most cases.
Both the power cord and HDMI cable are enclosed in a paintable plastic raceway running along the ceiling and wall surface from the projector to the AV components area.
Raceway is a clean, code-compliant solution that works in any room without requiring a ceiling outlet. The channel is paintable to match your ceiling and wall colour.
Ideal for: Rentals, finished rooms, drop ceilings, or any space where in-wall routing isn’t practical.

Projector & Screen FAQ
Everything you need to know about projector and screen installation in the GTA.
Do I need an on-site assessment before booking an installation?
Yes — for most projector installations we recommend an on-site assessment first. Throw distance, ceiling structure, and wire routing all depend on your specific room. Contact us to book an assessment and we’ll advise on what’s needed.
What’s the difference between a tensioned and non-tensioned screen?
A tensioned screen is pulled flat on all four sides, eliminating waves and edge curl that distort the projected image. A non-tensioned screen is held only top and bottom — waves and side-edge curling are possible, particularly on wider screens. For any serious home theater use, we recommend tensioned.
Can you install a projector if I don’t have an outlet at the ceiling?
Yes. If there’s no power outlet at the projector location, we route the power cord in a paintable surface raceway alongside the HDMI cable — a clean, code-compliant solution. For fully hidden power, that requires an electrician to install a ceiling outlet, which we can help coordinate.
Do you supply the projector and screen, or just install?
We primarily install equipment you’ve already purchased, but we’re happy to make recommendations based on your room size, budget, and use case. If you haven’t bought yet, reach out before purchasing — we can steer you toward models well-suited to your space.
Can you install in an office with a drop (tiled) ceiling?
Absolutely. Commercial drop ceiling installations are one of our specialties. We either build support above the ceiling grid or use specialized tile-ceiling projector mounts, depending on accessibility. All hardware and mounting brackets are supplied and installed securely.
What screen size should I get for my room?
Screen size depends on seating distance and your projector’s throw distance. A common guideline: 1.5× the screen width as the ideal viewing distance. So a 120″ screen (~105″ wide) works well at about 13 feet. During our on-site assessment we’ll confirm what sizes work for your projector model and room.
